California End-Of-Life Options Act

California End-Of-Life Options ActEver since Brittany Maynard’s well-publicized decision to end her life through assisted suicide, there have been a rash of assisted suicide bills being considered in state assemblies across the US. Even in my own state of California. It’s why I am asking you to pray against the passage of SB 128 currently being considered by our state – many disability organizations are opposing this bill because disability advocates realize that it could open the door to abuses; after all, who’s to say when a disabling condition is “terminal?” Many people with significant disabilities could feel pressure from their insurers, and others may feel it’s their “duty to die” because of inconvenience to the family. Some disabled people suffering from depression could, in the future, be enticed by an ‘assisted suicide option.’ Assisted suicide and disability are a bad mix!

For more info, read this recent article from the LA Times and use it to pray that God will awaken our state lawmakers to the dangers of legalizing assisted suicide. And if you live in California, by all means, contact your district’s state assemblyman to express your views!
